Mississippi Lift Laws and Vehicle Equipment Laws

Vehicle size in Mississippi is restricted to a maximum width of 102 inches, a maximum height of 13 feet 6 inches, and a maximum single vehicle length of 40 feet.

The only requirement for tires in Mississippi is that they be in safe operating condition, without any bulges or exposed cords. There is no minimum tire tread depth and no reference to tire grooving in the code.

Mississippi does not cover wheels in its laws.

Cars and trucks driven in Mississippi are required to have brakes on all 4 wheels. The brakes must be capable of stopping the vehicle from a speed of 20 mph within 30 feet. A secondary, mechanical, parking brake is required.

Steering is not covered under Mississippi's laws.

There are currently no suspension lift limits or suspension modification restrictions in Mississippi.

There are no vehicle frame height limits in Mississippi.

There are no bumper height restrictions in Mississippi.

Fenders and mud flaps are only required on commercial vehicles driven in Mississippi.

In addition to headlights and tail lights, vehicles in Mississippi are allowed to have auxiliary lights installed.

It is unclear if windshields are required in Mississippi, however, every vehicle equipped with a windshield must also have windshield wipers.

In Mississippi, vehicles are required to be equipped with mufflers. Exhaust cutouts are prohibited.

It is unclear whether or not Mississippi has any engine swap or engine performance modification rules.

Mississippi does not currently require emissions testing and effective 7/3/2015 annual vehicle inspections are no longer required.
