Missouri Lift Laws and Vehicle Equipment Laws

Missouri does not have a suspension lift law or a vehicle frame height limit, however, bumper height is restricted depending on the vehicle's GVWR. As long as bumper height is kept legal, residents of Missouri are free to modify their vehicles by installing suspension lift kits, aftermarket wheels and tires, performance shocks, aftermarket bumpers, and grille guards.

Vehicle Dimensions


In Missouri, vehicles must be no bigger than 102 inches wide, 14 feet tall, and 45 feet long for a single vehicle.

Tire Restrictions


All tires on vehicles driven in Missouri must be safe. There is no listed minimum tire tread depth or mention of tire grooving in the laws.

Wheel Restrictions


Wheels are not covered in Missouri's statutes.

Braking Requirements


Vehicles driven in Missouri are required to have functional brakes. A secondary, mechanical, parking brake is required.

There are no specific suspension laws in Missouri.

Frame Requirements


The street legal laws in Missouri do not list a maximum frame height.

Bumper Restrictions


Missouri requires that bumpers be at least 4.5 inches tall. Bumper height is limited according to the vehicle's GVWR.

Fenders and mud flaps are only required on commercial vehicles in Missouri.

In addition to headlights and tail lights, vehicles in Missouri are allowed to have additional lights installed. When a vehicle is equipped with extra lighting, no more than 4 front lights can be on at one time while driving.

It is unclear if windshields are required in Missouri, however, vehicles with windshields must have windshield wipers.

In Missouri, vehicles are required to be equipped with mufflers. Exhaust cutouts and bypasses are not allowed to be installed.
