Connecticut Lift Laws and Vehicle Equipment Laws


Connecticut has very modest vehicle modification laws with a suspension lift limit of only 4 inches and fenders required on all 4 wheels. As such, suspension lift kits, aftermarket wheels and tires, performance shocks, aftermarket bumpers, and grille guards are allowed.

Connecticut requires only that tires be in safe operating condition, without any bulges or exposed cords. There is no specific minimum tread depth and the code has no information on the legality of tire grooving.

Vehicles driven in Connecticut are required to have brakes on all 4 wheels. A secondary, mechanical, parking brake is required.

Emissions testing is required every two years on vehicles 1995 and newer, however, new vehicles may be exempt for the first 4 years.
